Pre-Clinical MicroPET/SPECT/CT

The Siemens Inveon is a preclinical imaging platform, providing integrated small animal PET, SPECT, and CT imaging and analysis for small animal imaging studies.

Siemens Inveon imaging machine

It is equipped with a 10 cm diameter bore size, and a PET resolution of 1.4 mm resolution at the center of the field of view. The CT resolution is 20 μm with the variable focus X-ray source and 40 μm with the standard source. The SPECT resolution is 2 mm in-plane.

Networked computers embedded in the gantries coordinate PET, SPECT, and CT data acquisition, and an innovative new nuclear pulse processing system acquires high resolution PET and SPECT data.

Inveon PET and SPECT each use the same new Siemens pulse processing technology and event handling architecture for high resolution, high count rate gamma ray processing. Inveon’s LSO detector design for PET includes 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm detector pixel spacing and a larger 20 x 20 crystal array that increases scanner axial FOV (12.7 cm and 30 cm in continuous bed position) and improves system sensitivity and high resolution (<1.4 mm). Inveon PET technology also utilizes an asynchronous coincidence processing architecture that virtually eliminates electronic dead time and substantially improves count rate performance and peak NEC.

Low dose, high speed CT offers the most accurate attenuation correction available for preclinical PET. The Inveon offers CT-based attenuation correction through the use of the docked CT module. Inveon SPECT scanner technology includes small NaI detector crystals (2 x 2 x 10 mm) with pinhole and parallel-hole collimators that provide a wide range of resolutions (0.5 – 3.0 mm).  The CT technology includes an 80 W, tungsten anode, 35-80 kVp source that provides a high-resolution scan (40 microns) in 5 minutes of scan time. With the optional 165 mm X-ray detector, the Inveon FOV can be as large as 10 cm.  TTL gating ports allow the input of both cardiac and respiratory trigger signals.
